Good skincare is that easy

Fewer products, more impact — why a simple routine is often better than a 10-step ritual.
Anyone who's delved into skincare knows the feeling: the more you read, the more complicated everything seems. Ten steps in the morning, eight in the evening, with peels, masks, and ampoules in between. The truth is: good facial care doesn't have to be complicated. A well-thought-out three-step routine is often enough to make the skin look visibly fresher, more hydrated, and better cared for.
Why a simple routine often works better
The idea behind elaborate skincare routines is understandable: more products mean more active ingredients, thus better results. In practice, however, this is rarely true.
Too many products can block each other. Certain active ingredients don't mix well — vitamin C and retinol, for example, or AHA acids and niacinamide in high concentrations. Applying everything at once risks irritation instead of results.
Furthermore, consistency suffers: A routine that takes ten minutes is quickly skipped on stressful mornings. One that's done in two minutes sticks. And consistency in skincare is more important than any single ingredient.
This doesn't mean that peels, masks, or special treatments are superfluous. But they are extras — optional, not mandatory. The foundation consists of three steps you do every day, morning and evening.
Step 1: Tonique — the underestimated base
Most people start their routine with cleansing and then go straight to cream. What's missing in between is a tonique — a facial toner that can do more than you'd expect.
A good tonique has three tasks. First, it removes any residue left behind by the cleansing product. Second, it balances the skin's pH, which is often slightly shifted by water and cleansing agents. And third, it provides a first layer of moisture, making the skin more receptive to the serum that follows.
The difference is subtle but noticeable: those who regularly use a tonique quickly find that subsequent care absorbs better and the skin looks more balanced overall.
What to look for
Choose an alcohol-free tonique — alcohol-based facial toners dry out the skin in the long run, even if they feel refreshing at first. Ingredients like rose water, hyaluronic acid, or mild plant waters are ideal because they hydrate without being heavy.
Our Tonique Ravissant is formulated precisely for this: rose water as a soothing base, hyaluronic acid for moisture, and a hint of vitamin C for freshness. Watery-light, alcohol-free, apply directly to the skin after cleansing.
Application: Apply 3–4 drops to a cotton pad or directly into your palms and gently spread over face, neck, and décolleté.
Step 2: Serum — the concentrated active ingredient boost
The serum is where the real work happens. Serums have a light, often watery or oily texture and contain active ingredients in significantly higher concentrations than a cream. They penetrate deeper into the skin and specifically address certain needs.
Why does serum come before cream? Because the basic rule of skincare is: thin before thick. A serum has smaller molecules than a cream and can penetrate the upper skin layer better. If you applied it over the cream, the cream's oily film would prevent the serum from absorbing.
Which serum for which need?
For moisture, hyaluronic acid is the gold standard — it can bind many times its own weight in water and plumps the skin from within. Aloe vera complements this well because it soothes and helps the skin retain moisture.
Those who want to refresh a tired complexion also benefit from active ingredients like vitamin C or light ferment extracts, which support skin metabolism.
Our Sérum Éclat combines hyaluronic acid with aloe vera and plant ferments — for a skin feeling that is plump, fresh, and balanced. Suitable for all skin types.
Application: Apply a few drops to cleansed, toned skin morning and evening and gently pat in. Do not rub — patting promotes circulation and helps the serum to be absorbed better.
Step 3: Cream — the finish that seals everything in
The cream is the final step that holds everything together. Its main task: to seal in the moisture and active ingredients you applied in the previous two steps. Without cream, some of the moisture simply evaporates again.
A good face cream also strengthens the skin barrier — the uppermost protective layer that shields your skin from environmental influences, cold, and dehydration. This is especially crucial in winter and for sensitive skin.
The right texture for your skin type
Dry skin needs richer formulas with ingredients like shea butter, vitamin E, or plant oils. Combination skin often gets along better with lighter gel-creams. Sensitive skin benefits from ingredients like rose water or panthenol, which have a soothing effect.
Our Crème Viennoise is a velvety face cream with rose water and vitamin E — rich enough to nourish dry skin sustainably, but not so heavy that it leaves a greasy film. It absorbs pleasantly and leaves a smooth, nourished skin feeling.
Application: Massage a small amount into your face, neck, and décolleté. In the morning as the last step before sunscreen and makeup, in the evening as the conclusion of your evening routine.
The sequence at a glance
Tonique — cleanses, balances, hydrates as a baseSerum — delivers concentrated active ingredients deep into the skinCream — seals, protects, and nourishes
This order follows the principle: thin liquid → thick liquid, water-based → oil-based. This allows each product to work optimally without blocking the others.

Morning vs. Evening: What's different?
The basic structure remains the same — three steps, always in the same order. But there are nuances.
Mornings are about protection and freshness. The skin needs to be prepared for the day. After your 3-step routine, ideally, follow with sunscreen — the most important anti-aging step of all, which many forget.
Evenings are about regeneration. The skin repairs itself at night, and skincare supports this process. The same three steps, just without sunscreen afterward. If you like, you can use a slightly richer cream or double up on the serum in the evening.
Common mistakes you should avoid
Applying too much product. More is not better. A pea-sized amount of cream is enough for the entire face. For serums, three to five drops are sufficient. Too much product absorbs less well and can clog pores.
Skipping absorption time. There should be 30–60 seconds between each step so that each product can absorb before the next one is applied. The entire ritual still only takes two to three minutes.
Applying products to dirty skin. Without prior cleansing, tonique, serum, and cream will be fighting against a layer of sebum, sweat, and environmental particles. Cleansing before the tonique is the non-negotiable prerequisite.
Only doing the routine in the evening. In the morning, the skin also needs care and protection. While the night was regenerative, the skin loses moisture overnight and needs to be replenished before starting the day.
Three steps are enough — if they are the right ones
Good skincare doesn't start with a full bathroom cabinet. It starts with a clear routine that you stick to every day. Tonique, serum, cream — in that order, morning and evening. This is the foundation on which everything else can be built.
What matters is not the number of products, but that they are coordinated and suit your skin. And that you actually use them — not just on Sunday evenings, but every day.
